Rubi Du – Played Me

To coincide with her touring alongside Fat Freddy’s Drop for their national run of New Zealand, Samoan / Jamaican artist Rubi Du kicks off 2025 with her first single of the year, ‘Played Me’, marking a return to her first love – Roots Reggae music.

Known to audiences in Aotearoa through her previous project, SilvaMC, Rubi Du has firmly established herself as the Queen of Aotearoa’s Roots and Dancehall scene. She has released a number of tracks and is celebrated for her undeniably captivating live performances making waves both in Aotearoa and internationally, with her influence starting to reach around the globe.

Her versatility as an artist is evident in her standout tracks and collaborations with fellow New Zealand artist JessB (‘Take It Down’) and Australian dance producer Wongo (‘Fireball’), as well as her own releases, ‘Brown Skin’ and ‘Bigga Tingz’. In 2022, she received the award for Favorite Solo Act at the Studio Radio Network Awards. Rubi Du continues to expand her musical palette and inspirations as she ventures into new territory with upcoming projects this year.
