The month of June saw the return of New Zealand Soul royalty; Ladi6, release their latest six track EP ‘Royal Blue 3000’. Premiered on Mass Appeal with an advance streaming of their EP, Ladi6 continue to impress and express life through the theme of love. But this is no average rose coloured EP. ‘Royal Blue 3000’ is a soundtrack to what you would consider a necessary musical stance against the noise of today.

To coincide with her Australian tour starting next week, Ladi6 releases three remixes of their single ‘Guru’ from Kiwi producer 10A, renowned US producer Karriem Riggins and Australia’s own Plutonic Lab.

New Zealand’s award winning DJ/Producer, 10A, lends his experimental remix skills for ‘Guru’. “We’ve been wanting to work with 10a for ages he is a very old friend of ours from East Christchurch and I think this very stripped-back slick vibe remix was so worth the wait with its huge drum-sound combined with futurist style synths. This sound is definitely why we love 10A’s work” says Ladi.

Karriem Riggins remix sees him completely reinterpret the original version as he took the approach of completely doing the opposite to the original and approached the groove with a raw African inspired drum kit and guitar sample. Karriem’s has writing and production credits on albums by artists like Erykah Badu, Madlib, Common, J Dilla, The Roots and Kanye West.

The final remix of ‘Guru’ is by Award winning Australian music producer Plutonic Lab. An ARIA Nominee and UK Mercury Prize Winner with a career spanning well over two decades, Plutonic Lab’s versatile music production has provided deep electro funk vibes to his take on the track.

If their EP is an indication of what’s to come for a full-length album, then we’re in for an enormous Soul music exploration in all its sonic forms.
